presenting: the ben and locke variety hour!

now that lost is over, i'm not sure what to do. i suppose that the debate will live on via various blogs and fansites.

in the meantime, it will be interesting to see what new shows the actors do next. i have a few ideas (i'll use their character names so everyone knows who i'm referencing):
  • ben and locke team up for a smothers brothers-type variety hour. ben plays the straight man while locke makes lots of jokes of at his expense. sample: ben, "man, traffic really killed me today. locke, "you mean like you killed me in season five?" cue audience applause.
  • jack rotates through a variety of medical procedural shows, starting with grey's anatomy. he bangs every chick on grey's, and tells each one, "just because you know what my tatoos say doesn't mean you know they mean."
  • hurley spins off a show in which the Island becomes Fantasy Island: the Next Generation. the island: TNG starts every episode with walt saying, "de plane, boss, de plane," as a new plane breaks up over the island.
  • everyone who was in the church meets up on lie to me as guests, like when the harlem globetrotters would be on scooby doo, or the jetsons visited the flintstones.
  • miles and sawyer go for the big screen as they reprise their sideways roles in a new lethal weapon-meets-starsky and hutch-meets-die hard buddy cop movie. sawyer goes back and forth between juliet, charlotte and kate. multiple sequels ensue, and every one features him uttering, "son of a bitch," as his catch-phrase, making it the new "i'm too old for this shit."

Today in 1977

Episode IV was released today, May 25, 1977.

I had the same reaction as Gareth Wigan, according to wikipedia:

When Lucas screened an early cut of the film for his friends, among them directors Brian De Palma, John Milius and Steven Spielberg, their reactions were disappointing. Spielberg, who claimed to have been the only person in the audience to have enjoyed the film,[5] believed that the lack of enthusiasm was due to the absence of finished special effects. Lucas later said that the group was honest and seemed bemused by the film.

In contrast, Alan Ladd, Jr. and the rest of 20th Century Fox loved the film: one of the executives,
Gareth Wigan, told Lucas, "This is the greatest film I've ever seen", and cried during the screening..."

may the force be with you.

lost series finale

this sunday is it.

this last season has been mixed. a bit too much of walking around the island, and too much of jacob and his brother has come across as one long extended itchy & scratchy episode.

some predictions for the finale (courtesy largely dr. w)
  • the gathering at the concert will bring everyone together.
  • juliet turns out to be jack's ex-wife
  • kate dies
  • richard (if the smoke monster did not already kill him) dies
  • sawyer goes home
  • hurley stays to take richard's place
  • the man in black is not killed, but is contained

pretty innovative pic

i found this guitar shaped like the queensyche emblem. check out the rest of these very unusual guitars here.

great pic and weekend haps

melting dolls posted this great pic here, and i shamelessly have to do it, too (because i love her blog, and pretty much idolize her. in fact, i once had a dream that i ran into her, introduced myself, and was crushed when she thought i was a dork).

points to whomever first names not just the movie, but the actors and the characters they played, from left to right. my money is on the cheese or bloodninja.

dr wintermute's rents got in last night. we're about to hit the road and drive to c'ville to hang with the cheese and broseephus.

the big question is: what movie are we going to see?
  1. mcgruber
  2. robin hood
  3. iron man 2 (even though the rents have seen it already)

salt

b. march 2002 / d. may 2010

yesterday i used the last of the salt from the first box of kosher salt that i ever bought. i bought this salt when bloodninja and i lived together in bohemia 5, off colquit (behind the little 5 vortex) in atlanta. i believe i bought i bought for making paella.

this box of salt followed me from bohemia 5 to dr. wintermute and j-watt's place, where it stood for two years when i was in boston, then followed me to my first apt (the loft at montag) where dr. w and i lived our first year of marriage, then followed us to south florida, and and then to dc.

i know some people's marriages who didn't last this long.

block party conversation

we had our block party yesterday.

actual conversation:

at the ladies end: all kinds of serious stuff.

at the guys end: whether or not george lucas envisioned star wars as a six (or nine) party story from the beginning or really thought episode iv would be a stand-alone movie, and whether it said "episode IV" during the beginning story roll when it was first released in 1977.

theme song

yesterday morning i was standing in the checkout aisle at snyder's supermarket, and the cashier started singing the star wars song.

i thought, "wow, that's a cool way to start the morning. this dude is just singing the song for me."

then i saw that he was looking at the star wars t-shirt i was wearing.

cashiers should always serenade their customers.

costa rica-bound

i love getting up early.

but not quite this early. it's 3:45, and i'm already done with breakfast. the cab is on its way here to take dr. wintermute and i to dulles, and then we're costa-rica bound (by way of atlanta). six days of sun and chilling out.

everyone keeps suggesting the zip lines, but those are a bit less fun when you're six months pregnant.

lots of pics when we return.

Intelligent Parodies

the chief has launched his new website, intelligent parodies, here.

he published his first book (available on amazon.com here), national darkroast day, and has a second novel, devil's rock jamfest, coming out soon.

these are fast-paced, satirical, novels, and a lot of fun to read.

check out his site, and his blog.
