world's strongest redneck

spent wednesday and thursday in nashville, which is one of the coolest towns in the south. it's kind of a mini-atlanta, and really has been developing a shit ton in the last five years. the bassman, one of my best friends from high school (soccer team mate, band mate, drinking buddy) has lived there since college, and i've managed to visit about every 18 months or so. he just moved into a sweet bachelor pad in the middle of downtown. 300 feet up, very slick, including a roof top pool, views of the city in all directions (yeah, being the tallest building in nashville is like being the tallest midget at the circus, but it's still cool), and a pretty urban, diverse crowd (well, for nashville. i probably doubled their minority quotient).

anyway, the bassman works for a talent agency and has been in the music industry his whole life. he's usually checking out bands several nights a week, and i tagged along wednesday night to see trailer choir (check them out here). they're kind of a country version of the black eyed peas. hot blond chick, super fat dancing billy bob, and good old boy lead singer. plus a backing band. the songs are simple, short, singable with soaring choruses. however, EVERY chorus is sung in unison. a harmony every now and then would not have hurt.

however, the opening act was the most memorable part of the night. i got to see the world's strongest redneck, who's actually a really funny guy. he eats light bulbs, bends iron, and folds an iron pan into a hot dog cooker. check out his site here.
