I think Apple's stock is overrated because their product just isn't all that good. I mean, I love my iPod, but is it that much better than all the other MP3 players out there? I'd say no.

actually, i do think the ipod is superior to other mp3 players. in fact, it's almost become a category unto itself--analagous to people using the words "kleenex" and "xerox" to mean tissue and photocopy, respectively. ipod is a brand with serious staying power, and it offers a product at every price point.

furthermore, apple has established the de facto business model for legal sales of online music. now that the ipod has expanded into video, apple can distribute content on the same platform.

still, i do think the stock is overheated.

since it was my comment that started this, i'd have to say that i'm afraid that the stock is 'overheated' - but i think it still has a ways to go before deflating.

-regarding the ipod, i believe the hype of it being superior for several reasons. 1. i own one, and can vouch that its 2. user interface is by far the easiest to use of any mp3 player on the market. yeah, apple branded the shit out of the ipod, but that brand is only successful b/c the product is worthy. how many shitty products w/ massive branding schemes have ultimate staying power?

-regarding apple's stock deflating or halting, the fact it's just getting into video says to me that it has a ways to rise. i don't even care about the video ipod, personal video players have been around for years - it's front row and the mac mini that are worthy. now that apple is starting to sell tv shows, movies are a short jump away. w/ front row and the mac mini getting upgrades, apple is (as all the analysts keep saying) set to conquer the home media center. tivo is definitely remaking itself, but apple will have the ability to maintain music, personal movies, recorded tv, and downloaded content all in one easy to use interface. watch what happens when that product hits.

back to my second ipod point, its all about the interface and ease of use.
