a dream come true

this past weekend we went to glasbern inn, a small bed & breakfast on a farm in pennsylvania to celebrate dr. wintermute's birthday (which was actually last month).

although the weather did not cooperate (cold, rainy and gray seems to have replaced spring in the mid atlantic this year), we had a great time. more pics to follow, but here are two shots of my favorite part: driving large-scale construction vehicles.

flip cup and tiki torches

dr. w bringing darth in atop a homemade cake

we had a great birthday party last friday. grilling out (even though our grill is falling apart) thanks to j-town mcgruber rigging the charcoal pan, great tunes courtesy dr. wintermute, flip cups, a keg, darth vader birthday cake, playing the new wii, and lots of tiki torches. those tiki torches were a pain, as i put off getting them until friday afternoon, and then it took me almost two hours to go to home depot and back in rush hour traffic.

big up to chief and chief chick for helping with a lot of the party prep, including the balloons, star wars streamers, and making their special hot wings.

see the whole set of pics here. favorites below.

flip cup

i've totally lucked out, it's a beautiful day (low 70s) for the big grill out and party tonight. i'm celebrating my birthday tonight, have friends coming over to grill out and then play flip cup. we're even renting a couple of tables for the backyard. a good mix of folks: family (j-town and the cheese), fraternity brothers, college friends, grad school friends, even some of dr. wintermute's co-workers.

the party was actually supposed to be last saturday. dr. wintermute had conspired with the chief, chief chick, and my family to throw a surprise party. it sounded like they had a great plan. unfortunately, i picked up a really bad case of bronchitis on my way home from vegas. last monday night was the worst. dr. w came home, and said that i really looked ill (i felt worse). she insisted on taking my temperature. as the thermometer started beeping, her eyes got really big. i was running a 104.5 fever! she said, "we're taking you to the ER, now."

so, i spent the evening at the ER. they got my fever under control, got me some meds, and sent me home by 1:00 am. unfortunately, by last friday, i was still feeling terrible. i couldn't sleep that well, i was still running a fever as high as 103, and i was really out of it. so dr. w had to had to cancel the surprise party. more than anything, i felt really badly for her for all of the work she had put into it.

but tonight, we're going to have a great throw-down.
