almost there

the chief chick is ready to deliver that baby!

she's been in labor for almost four days now!

here are some pics from our trip out to the shore a few weeks ago to get some crabs at harris crab house.

lark actually handled hanging out on the deck pretty well

no crabs were harmed in the making of this blog

nice view. and the water looked nice, too.

i'm going to take this picture, and as future me, go to emory campus february 1997 and find past me, chief, and chief chick hanging out together and say: this is your future

broseephus and the cheese get it done

two weekends ago broseephus and the cheese visited us to help us get ready for our return to work (and hang out with lark). oh man, they are my heroes! this is the amazing list of stuff they either did for us or helped us do:
  1. clear out our basement--we have three years worth of accumulated junk (including some other people's junk--like the chief's broken window a/c unit)
  2. disassemble our fold out couch in the basement, and move it up three floors to the new playroom.
  3. disassemble our spare bed in (what is now) the playroom; take spare parts to basement and put mattress in storage sleeve in basement.
  4. carry shelving unit from basement to playroom; weighs roughly 17 tons.
  5. completely re-arrange spare bedroom to turn it into playroom.
  6. clean out shed in backyard; install various hangers and wall organizers and hang up collection of yard tools.
  7. reassemble fold out couch in playroom. this was a herculean task that took until midnight, and including some serious mcgrubering. broseephus was masterful (i wish i had some pictures of the process, but it was less fun than it sounds, and had i said, 'hey wait, i want a picture of this for the blog,' i think dr. wintermute or broseephus would have shoved that camera so far up my anus i would take pictures every time i spoke).
  8. disassemble wobbly cabinet in playroom and carry it down stairs, piece by piece.
and then, as if that was not enough, they babysat lark saturday night, allowing us to have a night on the town (dinner AND seeing the social network. which made me wonder: what the shit was i doing at the big h in 2003 while zuckerburg and his friends were joining secret societies and inventing a $23 billion dollar enterprise?). here's a shot of us headed out on our date:

Reds NL Central Champs

What a week! The Reds, my hometown team, clinched the NL Central.

And they did it in SUCH STYLE.

Jay Bruce swatted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth in Cincinnati.

St. Louis, you can SUCK it.

I just wish Marty and Joe had been there to call it, and for the old left-hander to say he was, "rounding third and headed for home."

Our first title since 1995--since the days of Hal Morris, Bary Larkin, and Chris Sabo. My dad was at the game tonight. He use to take us to almost 20 games every summer; field-level seats as often as we could afford it. We'd get there early--like 5:30 so we could be there for batting practice, watch 'This Week in Baseball' on the jumbotron, and chase the players for autographs.
