speaking of successful branding

i ran across this band while listening to sirius. it made me think of bloodninja's mom.

is a goatwhore:
  1. a goat that is a whore?
  2. some who whores out goats?
  3. a whore who screws goats?

the best company name ever

the cheese and dr. broseephus live near this company. it is for real.

there's even a raging debate about it at this guy's blog:

We at Analtech get a wide variety of questions, everything from "How do you produce such quality Thin Layer Chromatography plates at such reasonable prices?" to "How many of your products were used on 'CSI'?"

But, the one question we get consistently is:

logoanaltech.jpg

"Where on earth did you come up with a name like 'Analtech'?!"

In fact, this question seems to be asked frequently to no one in particular on various web sites and blogs, normally phrased "Why did they name their company that?!"

So, we figured we'd share the story with you and then ask for your opinion on the future of the name.

How Analtech Got Its Name:

The company was founded in 1961 as Custom Service Chemicals.
In 1964, the company paid a marketing firm (that shall remain nameless) to come up with a different name. They said, "Well, you guys do Analytical Technology - why don't you put the two words together and call it 'Analtech'!"

And, here we are, nearly 50 years later - with the same name.

What's in a name?

We've talked with a few experts in the field of marketing, branding, etc. and here's the general consensus:

• Analtech is a brand name known and trusted by the academic and science communities worldwide

• Under normal circumstances, such a branding after nearly 50 years would be considered a huge success

• Analtech faces certain challenges because of the "juvenile" humor that has developed in the past few decades and current web filters that may block the company name
