feenix

got to phoenix late last night. thanksgiving starts early! we avoided all of the usual thanksgiving travel adventures. had to get up early this morning for an 8:00am *eastern* time call. thankfully, my only call for vacation (as i promised dr. wintermute).

heroes and villains

last night was our annual halloween party. because a few friends were getting married last weekend, we postponed the bash a week. our theme this year was heroes and villains.

a ton of great costumes and a very competitive costume contest. we also had a new competition, courtesy the cheese, with a horror movie trivia quiz. the cheese and j-town also helped a ton with the decorations, and i think they may have been our best ever.

here are the pics.

for the costume contest, we actually had to have a run-off. as the dr. wintermute and shan-de-la-shan tied for first, and then dr. w won the run-off. j-town won the next runner-up. dr. w dressed up as alex from a clockwork orange, and shan-de-la-shan arrived as the king. i didn't know it was him for the first 10 minutes. j-town went totally method as wolverine, including growing our his muttonchops, and the cheese was the bride for the second time this year. we also had some great rednecks for obama, and a sweet darth vader and leia.

the pumpkins turned out well, too. we stepped up the intricacy. dr w and j-town had produced a really good joker and haunted house, respectively. my obama turned out decently, but i messed up one of the eyes. my 'no country for old men' costume turned our pretty well.

the night wrapped up with our long-held tradition of hitting tasty diner. darth met some err, young, fans.

ok, let's let the pictures speak for themselves.

they're heerrre

the cheese and j-town just got here. dr. w and i just put in some power cleaning, got beer, scary movies, added more halloween decorations, and i think we're almost set for tomorrow.

the annual freakfest, err, halloween party is tomorrow night.

the force will be with me.

but for tonight, it's the quarry house.

the day we've been waiting for

the 44th

they're calling it. i think it's in the can. barack is our 44th

composite characters

is this like the funniest election day coverage ever? stewart and colbert.

cbs is reporting that mccain is now mathematically impossible.

but let's not call it in the air.

ohio!

they're putting ohio for obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!

peace out, cub scout

did this phrase really just get said on national tv?

some more states

looks like some good states are tipping. fox just called ohio.

but what the hell is happening to virginia?

maybe having a wintermute canvas for obama was not a good idea.

the beauty of the internet is seeing the past. this page from 2004 is eerily prescient.

early results

the chief, chief chick and the newlyweds are over at chez wintermute to watch the results.

early results are ok. CBS is calling PA. apparently, the other networks are not.

VA is actually leaning mccain, but only the rural counties are apparently in. northern VA, the 'fake' part of the state, has not reported yet.

and now they're calling north carolina against elizabeth dole. while i don't like all of her policies or her party, she has a very impressive figure profile.

almost there...almost there

sitting on the hartsfield tarmac. quick trip to atlanta, and then home tonight for the big day. dr. w and i are trying to decide how early to get to the polls. plan is to leave the house at 5:30am.

what can i say that hasn't been said by the fine folks at fivethirtyeight.com?

tomorrow could be historic.

we'll be hanging at the homestead. the chief and chief chick are joining us.

time magazine reports that my hometown of hamilton county is in play. i don't know what to do with it goes to obama. this is the epicenter of conservatism. i think it stays red, as does ohio. i'm not sure what to think about the rest.

good luck, and good night.
